Terminal Awareness

Screen Shot 2015-02-11 at 5.56.35 PMThe aged citizen lay on his death bed pondering his last few thoughts. The community had compassion towards him and tended to the needs of his frail body and infected mind. He was the only remaining victim of a memetic virus that had threatened the existence of humanity for thousands of years.

As his consciousness waned, brightness flooded his mind and he thought, “Is this heaven?”

He felt very peaceful at the last moment although there were no supernatural gods there to comfort him nor angels to take his hand.

The last believer expired… theism finally came to an end.

(Epilogue: unbound by the shackles of superstition, humanity flourished.)
